About Me
Welcome to Basic Sunday Cooking!

About Me
After a decade in the fast-paced world of digital media advertising in NYC, I traded in the 9-to-5 grind for a life led by food and creativity. During my time in the industry, I had the opportunity to work on global Fortune 500 brands—including five Super Bowl campaigns for iconic chip brands. But after years in the trenches, I realized I wanted to create something more personal.
As a second-generation Korean-American, food has always been more than just sustenance—it’s a connection to my roots and a vessel for storytelling. My cooking is inspired by memory: the way a certain stew tastes like comfort or how a simple side dish can transport me to childhood.
Though I didn’t grow up cooking at home, living alone in NYC sparked something. I began craving homemade Korean dishes I missed, so I started teaching myself to cook them—from scratch. My sister became my lifeline, talking me through recipes over the phone, and Maangchi’s YouTube channel helped me take those first steps in the kitchen.
With time, I stopped following recipes to the letter and began crafting dishes that spoke to my own taste and memories. Cooking became a practice—part creative outlet, part cultural preservation, and all heart.
Why Basic Sunday Cooking
The name Basic Sunday Cooking is rooted in two ideas:
- Basic stands for the fundamentals—keeping things simple, approachable, and grounded. It’s about starting with the essentials and building confidence in the kitchen, no matter your skill level.
- Sunday speaks to the feeling many of us know too well: the Sunday Scaries. That anxious countdown before the workweek begins. This project was created as an antidote to that dread—a space that offers calm, kindness, and a positive vibe. A reminder that cooking doesn’t have to be overwhelming or performative. It can be soothing, joyful, and deeply nourishing, both physically and emotionally.
