This dish can be served either spicy or non-spicy. For a spicy version, add gochugaru or Korean red pepper flakes. Or you can add jalapeno slices!
The crispy tofu dish can be enjoyed with rice and veggies. Due to the intense flavor of the tofu, a bowl of rice offsets the powerful taste and balances all flavor notes nicely. The veggies also add a nice flavor to the dish.
The Importance of Draining the Water
When frying tofu, it’s important to extract as much excess water as possible from the tofu. If not, the corn starch will soak in the water, which will leave slightly soggy tofu.
The mix of water and hot oil will also cause a few oil sparks on your stove.
While you can remove excess water by gently patting it with a paper towel, I am an avid user of Tofubud! This seriously does the job in about 5-10 minutes. So much water comes out of it, that you cannot remove it with just a paper towel. It’s now one of my favorite kitchen tools. Try Tofubud and get 10% off with the code “BasicSunday” until 3/18/22
How to Store It
Simply wrap up any leftovers and store them in the refrigerator. I like to re-heat it in the toaster or air-fryer for a crispier texture.
