As a kid, I did not like the taste of vegetables. It was a great struggle for my mom to have me eat it. I only like meat and fruits.

Although the one vegetable side dish I liked was the Korean spinach side dish or Sigeumchi-namul . Why? Because it was tasty.

Is Korean Spinach Different from Regular Spinach?

Yes. Korean spinach is shorter and has thicker leaves than western spinach. It can hold the sauce better than regular spinach.

While you could make this dish with regular spinach, the texture may not be the same.

Korean Spinach Side Dish

Basic Sunday
A great and delicious way to enjoy spinach. Enjoy it as a side dish
Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 10 minutes

Ingredients
  

  • 10 oz Korean Spinach
  • 1-2 Cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 Green onion, chopped
  • 1 tsp Soy sauce
  • 1 1/2 tsp Sesame seed oil
  • 1/2 tsp Roasted sesame seeds

Instructions
 

  • Rinse the spinach and cut off justn the ends, not the stems
    10 oz Korean Spinach
  • Squeeze out as much water as possible
  • In a bowl, mix soy sauce, minced garlic, green onions, sesame seed oil, and roasted sesame seeds
    1-2 Cloves of garlic, minced, 1 Green onion, chopped, 1 tsp Soy sauce, 1 1/2 tsp Sesame seed oil, 1/2 tsp Roasted sesame seeds
  • Combine the sauce with the spinach
