The secret to delicious sweet soy-braised baby potatoes or Algamja-jorim is a crunch outer layer and a soft and fluffy inside.

It’s a great side dish! Perfect those who do not eat spicy food. I personally love this side dish because I like sweet food and potatoes. It doesn’t get any simpler than that.

You can make these ahead of time, store in the fridge, and eat them within a week or so. You can heat them up before eating or have it cold, my favorite way.

Soy Braised Baby Potatoes – Algamjajorim

Sweet and savory crunchy and soft potatoes great to have as a side dish!

Ingredients
  

  • 1 – 1.5 lb baby potatoes size of quail eggs
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 4 tbsp soy sauce
  • 4 tbsp cooking or rice syrup can use sugar with a little bit of water
  • 3 drops sesame seed oil
  • 1 tsp rosted sesame seeds
  • cracked black pepper optional
  • 2 tbsp cooking oil

Method
 

  1. Rinse and drain your potatoes and remove any rotten ones
    1 – 1.5 lb baby potatoes
  2. In a shallow pan, add cooking oil and drained baby potatoes
    1 – 1.5 lb baby potatoes, 2 tbsp cooking oil
  3. Spread the potatoes out evenly
  4. Cover the pan with a lid for 5 minutes
  5. After 5 minutes, remove the lid and shake the pan to prevent potatoes from burning
  6. Put the lid back on and wait another 5 mintues
  7. Repeat the shake and lid on 4 times total or for 20 mintues total
  8. Potatoes are ready when you can easily pierce through the bigger pieces
  9. Lower the heat and add soy sauce and stir
    4 tbsp soy sauce
  10. Add cooking syrup or simple syrup and stir
    4 tbsp cooking or rice syrup
  11. Add minced garlic
    2 cloves of garlic, minced
  12. Add black peppers (optinoal)
    cracked black pepper
  13. When the sauce reduces, turn off the heat
  14. Drizzle on sesame seed oil and seeds
    3 drops sesame seed oil, 1 tsp rosted sesame seeds
